In paragraph 270, 3rd sentence, which begins at page 321, line 24, 13th word in Jones's edition, the following propositions are used:

the symbol "+" after 5-17 indicates that 5-17 is used explicitly. "see Jones 2:485" —vol.2, p.485— is my comment.

The propositions may be accompanied by following symbols.

[] unnecessary argument
() conjecture
<> two or more steps are included in one statement
= cite previous statement
<= cite a part of previous statement
# erroneous application
+ explicit application (not always indicated)
* continue to/from next/previous sentence
uter(xxx|yyy) either xxx or yyy is used, according to the configuration.
alter(xxx|yyy) xxx or yyy (or something other) is used.

Instead of a proposition-identifier, you may find one of the
following:

absurdum "it's absurd"; statement in the end of reductio ad absurdum
adfirmatio statement in the course of a proof usually proved later in the proposition
aliter "in other ways"; introduce an alternative proof.
analysis analysis of a problem begins here
diorismus1 assertion of the proposition in particular context; usually follows ekthesis.
diorismus2 diorismus (statement of limit of possibility)
ekthesis ekthesis (particular enuncitation)
kataskeue constructions before the proof (rare, only when no specific proposition can be cited for the construction.)
protasis protasis (general enunciation) (rare in Pappus)
similiter can be proved in the same way
sumperasma repetition of the theorem
supra see previous argument
synthesis synthesis of an argument; usually follows analysis.
